George E. Hunter was elected to the Pomona City Council in April of 1999. Prior to his appointment, he served on the Pomona Charter Revision Committee and City Planning Commission, and served as Chairman and Co-Founder of the Pomona Anti Crime Taskforce In Our Neighborhoods (ACTION) Committee (1993).
Since serving on City Council, Mr. Hunter has steered many community service efforts including the annual Holiday Lane Parade, the Military Banner Program, the General Plan Update process and several police efforts such as combating crime and prostitution.
“My vision for the City of Pomona is to help create an urban environment which fosters growth and a sense of community,” said George Hunter.
Mr. Hunter is Vice Chair of the Alameda Corridor East (ACE) Construction Authority, as well as Council representative to the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, Gold Line Construction Authority, Pomona Unified School District Liaison Committee, Vehicle Parking District Ad-Hoc Committee and the Fairplex Blue Ribbon Committee. He also chairs the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) Trauma Care Taskforce, which has provided vital trauma care services to Pomona residents.
Since the City of Pomona’s involvement with the San Gabriel Valley Council of Government’s (SGVCOG) Trauma Care Task Force, Pomona residents have received one additional paramedic helicopter housed in the San Gabriel Valley and designated LAC+USC Trauma Center for the 1.2 million residents in the East San Gabriel Valley including Pomona. These additional services are an improvement to the prior services. Previously, the only trauma care facility was Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.
Mr. Hunter and his wife, Bianca, and son Dolan have lived in Pomona since 1990.
